In Memory of Foggy

Foggy was a legendary Bedlington terrier, who grew up in the rural tranquility of North Norfolk, UK. He could often be found running across Bob Hall sands, a stunning landscape that emerges from the North Sea at low tide. It was here that this photo was taken. He was born on February 12, 2001, and died on August 1, 2008 as a result of a gunshot wound. Please follow the links above to learn more about his life, death and our campaign to bring justice, which will also serve - we hope - to raise awareness of the growing problem of airgun crimes.

As you can see from the map below, the story of Foggy has already touched thousands of people worldwide. A suitable - and perhaps optimistic - starting point for our story is an extract from a speech made by Senator George Vest in the autumn of 1870. A eulogy of sorts, the speech helped Vest win the trial in which damages were sought for the killing of a dog named Old Drum. Nearly 140 years later, we find ourselves amidst a similar tragedy, and hope that the courts recognize the power and meaning of Vest's speech in their review of this tragic case.

"The one absolutely unselfish friend that man can have in this selfish world, the one that never deserts him, the one that never proves ungrateful or treacherous, is his dog. A man's dog stands by him in prosperity and poverty, in health and in sickness. He will sleep on the cold ground when the wintry winds blow and the snow drives fiercely, if only to be near his master's side. He will kiss the hand that has no food to offer, he will lick the wounds and sores that come in encounters with the roughness of the world. He guards the sleep of his pauper master as if he were a prince. When all other friends desert, he remains. When riches take wing, and reputation falls to pieces, he is as constant in his love as the sun in its journey through the heavens"

Senator George Vest, speaking to a jury in 1870 about the shooting of Old Drum
